COMMON GIO ELECTRIC SCOOTER TECHNICAL ISSUES:
1. Theft Alarm
The signal flasher lights, horn, turn beeper and theft alarm are all one little black integrated unit inside the upper fairing attached to the handlebar underneath the meter readout assembly. You have to take the upper fairing off (the one with the two signal lights) in order to get at it.
The unit looks like a little horn! It has one integrated electronic circuit board inside it that controls all those functions. The horn speaker is attached to that circuit board.
If malfunctioning, it would be odd but not impossible that only one of those functions (turn lights/beeper, horn, alarm) was not working correctly.
If all other functions are working, also check the wires to the key switch—are they loose?
It is important that the red kill switch is in the on position; then turns the
ignition switch to the on position, which cancels the alarm.
In order to activate, turn the ignition switch to the off position then
press and hold the horn button for about 3 seconds then release and
it will arm itself. It will give you an audible 3 beep sound once it is armed.
The GIO 500 watt instruction manual covers several different types of
bikes and is useless when it comes to explaining the alarm system.
Your GIO alarm system has a random set and reset time delay (differential). After arming the alarm system, its first bump or touch will activate it.
That means that just after fooling or deliberately activating the alarm, it goes into a random time select mode that changes every time it is first bumped.
If you were to go back to your bike, let’s say 5 minutes after it has already did its song and dance, it will have reset and will activate again.
2. 350W or 550W?
Under Canadian consumer law, I am told you can list the “peak” wattage as the “wattage.” So anything with a 500w peak is a 500w product. However, the GIO motors are 350w average (I think that’s the term) with 500w peak. But as I was told by the Feds, “500w” is a perfectly legal description.
3. Assembly hints

4. How do rear brakes work?
The back brake has a long pad about the entire circumference of the black cylinder. When you squeeze the brake handle, it wraps the pad around the rotor, like in a letter “c” pattern the “c” shape gets slightly smaller.
